On April 12, 2020, at approximately 8:30 p.m., Kern County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 7800 block of Florence Street in Lamont for a victim of a shooting. When deputies arrived, they located a 34-year-old female at the residence suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to the hospital where she was pronounced deceased. The woman was seven months pregnant; that child is currently being treated at a hospital
Investigators requested an Amber Alert related to the case for a two-year-old boy. At 11:10 p.m., the child was located, and is safe and unharmed.
At about 11:35 p.m., the suspect vehicle and suspect were located in the 2900 block of Taft Highway. Deputies arriving on scene were confronted with gunfire from the suspect. The SWAT Team responded, and over the period of a few hours, gunfire was exchanged. Ultimately, the suspect was declared deceased at the scene at about 4 a.m. on April 13, 2020. No law enforcement officers were injured. Three agencies were involved including Kern County Sheriff’s Office, Bakersfield Police Department and California Highway Patrol. Kern County Sheriff’s Office will lead the investigation.
