Byram Township Parks and Trails remain open

Governor Murphy has issued Executive Order 118, which is effective immediately, mandating that all State and County Parks must close as of 8:00 PM on Tuesday, April 7th.

EO-118 states that public interaction and social gatherings at County and State Parks has not been observed in a manner consistent with his previous executive orders and this threatens to undermine the social mitigation strategies necessary to limit the spread of COVID-19.

The State OEM Director has been given the discretion to make additions, clarifications, and exceptions and exclusions to the categories of parks subject to the Order. Governor Murphy noted that municipal parks are not closed by EO-118 - the discretion to close municipal parks is left to the municipality.

We are asking for your help in ensuring that our public parks remain open.  Please continue to practice safe social distancing techniques to help mitigate the further spread of COVID-19.

We continue to ask that you do not gather in groups, respect 6 feet of social distancing between persons when engaging in walking, running, bicycling and other forms of passive recreation in and around the Byram Township public parks and trail systems.

In addition, we ask that you please be reminded that the CDC has recommended the use of cloth face coverings in community settings to help reduce the spread of COVID-19. There is a growing body of evidence that people who are infected can spread the virus before they develop symptoms or even in the absence of symptoms.  Wearing a cloth face covering may help prevent the spread of the virus by people who are infected and do not know it.

More cases of COVID-19 are likely to be identified in the United States in the coming days, including more instances of community spread so please continue to do your part to limit exposure.

With the closing of State and County parks and trail systems, municipalities are likely to experience an increase in the use of their public resources.  Therefore, please plan your passive recreation accordingly to help limit your exposure and to ensure that you can enjoy the recreational facilities still currently open and available to the residents of Byram Township.

Thank you for your kind consideration and remember, by working together as a community we will get through this.

Stay safe.
