Advisory

April 7, 2020 Coronavirus update from Burr Ridge Mayor Gary Grasso.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM MAYOR GRASSO ON COVID-19 / CORONAVIRUS

Tuesday, April 7, 2020

GOVERNOR’S STAY-AT-HOME ORDER EFFECTIVE NOW THRU APRIL 30!

A big “thank you” to Pastor Bob at Trinity Lutheran Church.  Pastor Bob and Trinity Lutheran donated 600 pairs of rubber gloves to our police department.  Chief Madden will see they get into the right (and left) hands… And a “thank you” also to Burr Ridge’s Russ Smith who donated thirty bottles of spray disinfectant on behalf of Edward Jones.

IDPH Medical Director Ngozi Ezike, MD issued this directive:  Guidance on the Use of Masks by the General Public: SARS-CoV-2 is a novel coronavirus that has emerged and caused coronavirus disease (abbreviated as COVID-19). Public health experts continue to learn about COVID-19, but based on current data and similar coronaviruses, the virus is believed to be spread between close contacts via respiratory droplets or contact with contaminated surfaces. While staying home, social distancing, and strict hand hygiene are still preferred methods for preventing further spread of COVID-19, facemasks are one more tool that may be used by the general public and essential workers to protect each other from respiratory droplets produced when we cough, sneeze, or talk. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) now recommends wearing cloth face coverings in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain (e.g., grocery stores and pharmacies), especially in areas of significant community-based transmission. CDC also advises the use of simple cloth face coverings to slow the spread of the virus and help people who may have the virus and do not know it from transmitting it to others.

According to the county boards of health dashboards today, Burr Ridge today has had 24 total positive coronavirus cases: 18 on the DuPage side and 6 on the Cook side. That again is two more than yesterday.  Any increase is unacceptable, but the increases remain relatively small, especially since Burr Ridge has four senior living centers – one in Cook and three on the DuPage side.  The health boards calls these centers: congregate centers.  As you all know, the increase in cases only means you must be more committed to staying home because the SAH Order seems to be working.  As our Bo Jackson has told all of Illinois: “The Cure is US.” It’s on US to heed the Governor’s SAH Order.  Vigilance is the call to arms.  Practice social distancing, wash your hands with hot water and plenty of foaming soap – and more importantly, stay home.

Celebrating the goodness of life literally, Janet and I want to share the great news that our son Brian and his wife Mary became parents today.  Mary delivered a healthy 8-pound boy to Brian, and the Grasso and Daly families.  There is new life all around us in the Spring – and soon we will all return to normalcy. Remember: Family First!

“Count your age by friends, not years.  Count your life by smiles, not tears.”― John Lennon
