City of McHenry Update - Yard Waste and Online Forms

YARD WASTE PROGRAMS UPDATE

Due to material handling concerns and public gathering restrictions instituted by the State of Illinois through the current shelter in place order associated with the Covid-19 pandemic, the Yard Waste Drop-Off Program on Saturday mornings at Knox Park will be temporarily discontinued until further notice.

On Monday, April 6, 2020, City Council approved a modification to the current Yard Waste Curbside Collection scope of services in the City Refuse Hauling Contract between Prairieland Disposal and the City of McHenry. The Yard Waste Curbside Collection Program will now include free weekly pickup of three (3) yard waste bags, properly sized bundles, or acceptable containers for every residential refuse account in the City. Yard waste in excess of these quantities will be accepted with use of a prepaid yard waste sticker. Should you need yard waste stickers, stickers are available for purchase at Angelo’s Fresh Market, Meijer Store, Ace Hardware, and Jewel Food Store.

As a reminder, Yard Waste Curbside Collection Program details are as follows:

  • Residents may use either 2-ply, 50# weight kraft paper bags or garbage type cans which do not exceed 33 gallons in size with a maximum weight of 50 pounds per container. To make the containers more visible, please mark the containers with a large X or YW. No plastic bags are allowed.
  • Branches must be bundled to a maximum length of 5 feet, a maximum of 2 feet in diameter, and a maximum of 50 pounds.
  • Pickup of yard waste materials is on the same day as the resident’s refuse pickup day.
  • ACCEPTABLE MATERIALS: grass clippings, leaves, branches 3 inches in diameter or less, brush, garden plants, flowers, weeds, bark pieces, pine cones.
  • MATERIALS NOT ALLOWED: tree trunks & stumps, branches larger than 3 inches in diameter, fence posts, railroad ties, firewood, rocks, sod or dirt.

Should you have any questions, please contact Prairieland Disposal at 847-381-9300 or the Public Works Department at [email protected] or 815-363-2186.  Thank you.

ONLINE FORMS

The City now has an online forms and applications portal. Select forms will be available to fill out and submit online without the need to print, mail, scan, or email. Simply fill it out and submit it online! Included in those forms are a way to submit a Public Works request and a way to report suspected ordinance violations directly to the Community Development Department for investigation.  Check out all of the available forms on the City’s website at: https://cityofmchenry.org/forms

We will continue to add more to the list so check back often.  For questions regarding the online forms, contact Monte Johnson at [email protected] or 815-363-2108.
