An office manager for 5-Star Theatricals has been arrested for embezzling money and other charges following a month long investigation.
On February 25, 2020, an employee of 5-Star Theatricals reported they suspected their office manager, (S) Mary Urias, embezzled money from the non-profit organization’s bank account.
Urias was working as the office manager for 5-Star Theatricals since May 2016. The investigation determined Urias used her position to write checks in her name and deposit the funds into her own personal bank account. Additionally, Urias wrote checks from the company account and used a company credit card to cover her personal expenses. From June 2016 to February 2020, Urias is suspected of embezzling more than $130,000.00.
On April 2, 2020, detectives with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office’s Thousand Oaks Station served a search warrant on Urias’ residence and took her into custody. Urias was booked for multiple counts of Grand Theft/487 PC, Identity Theft/530.5 PC, Preparing False Documentary Evidence/134 PC, and Forgery with Prior/470(a) PC. Urias is currently in custody on $110,000.00 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on April 6, 2020.
