Advisory

April 5, 2020 Coronavirus update from Burr Ridge Mayor Gary Grasso.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM MAYOR GRASSO ON COVID-19 / CORONAVIRUS

Sunday, April 5, 2020

GOVERNOR’S STAY-AT-HOME ORDER EFFECTIVE NOW THRU APRIL 30!

According to the county board of health dashboards, Burr Ridge now has 20 total cases: 15 on the DuPage side and 5 on the Cook side-one more than yesterday. As our Bo Jackson reminds all in Burr Ridge: “The Cure is US.” Remember, it’s on US to heed the Governor’s SAH Order and practice social distancing. Vigilance is the call to arms. Practice social distancing, wash your hands with hot water and plenty of foaming soap – and stay home.

Brookhaven continues to serve our residents with groceries and curb side pick-up. Place your grocery orders online – www.brookhavenmarket.com. Their staff will shop for you and bring your order out to your car!  They will deliver too depending on demand. Buy gift cards from our Burr Ridge businesses, especially our retail shops. Go to www.burr-ridge.gov to find a list of our restaurants and counter service food establishments that are providing take-out meals. Your order will help keep a business open during this crisis.

I have strived in my messages to be positive while keeping you informed of an ever-changing landscape caused by the rapid spread of coronavirus. In the weeks since this crisis developed from a news story in a far-away part of the world to the present reality, your elected leaders and senior staff have been busy preparing a new financial plan for the Village brought upon by the pandemic. Going forward, we will have to assess the total damage and rebuild – possibly creating a new financial structure that did not exist before the virus struck the US. This pervasive virus, far from done yet, will have altered our lives – literally for some and financially and emotionally for all. The post-crisis world will cause all of us to adjust while holding onto what really matters. These are not positive messages from me, but they must be faced, carefully considered, and solved with community consensus. Recognizing a problem is usually the first step in beginning to solve it.  That applies to our “Very Special Place” we call Burr Ridge. The Board and I will have to assess what revenue we can reliably count on and determine what we can afford to provide the community in the coming year. As a non-home rule village, the Board’s revenue options are and will be limited, but we will ensure that the place you call home continues to be a special one.

It is spring and the sun was out today. While on a walk today, people we passed - at great distances – waved, smiled and said hello. It is always a good day to be in Burr Ridge.

“It often requires more courage to dare to do right, than to fear to do wrong.” – Abraham Lincoln

STAY VIGILANT, STAY RESOLVED, STAY SAFE & CALM –
AND STAY HOME
