Narrative: |
On 04/02/20, detectives with the Camarillo Special Enforcement Detail concluded an investigation and arrested Jerome Perkins for manufacturing and possession of illegal assault rifles.
During the month of March 2020, Camarillo Patrol Deputies responded to a call for service in Camarillo regarding numerous firearms located inside a parked vehicle. Based upon the initial investigation, deputies suspected that several of the rifles may not have been in compliance with current California Department of Justice firearms standards. Detectives with the Camarillo Special Enforcement Detail immediately began an investigation and confirmed that two of the assault style rifles located in the vehicle were illegal to possess in California. It also appeared the assault rifles were manufactured from several different sources.
Detectives identified the registered owner of this vehicle as Jerome Perkins. On 04/02/20, members of the Camarillo Special Enforcement Detail detained Perkins in the 3700 block of Las Posas Road in Camarillo. Detectives also served a search warrant at Perkin’s residence in the 1200 block of Petit Avenue in Ventura and at a storage facility in the 100 block of Gonzales Road in Oxnard. During a search of Perkin’s residence, detectives located an additional 10 assault style rifles, 1 handgun, 1 shotgun, three high-powered bolt action WW2 style rifles, high capacity magazines and ammunition. Detectives also located additional firearm components that were consistent with items used by people that manufacture firearms.
As a result of this investigation 23 firearms were seized, including numerous assault rifles that were either unregistered or out of compliance with current Department of Justice firearm standards and illegal to possess. Perkins was booked into the Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Facility for 30600(a) PC / Transport, import, manufacture assault rifles, and 30605(a) PC/ Possession of an assault rifle. Perkins bail was set at $100,000. As of 04/03/20, Perkins posted bail with a pending court date.
