DATE: April 3, 2020 / 1:30 am

INCIDENT: VC 2800.2 (A) – Evading Police with Disregard for Public Safety
PC 466 – Possession of Burglary Tools

LOCATION: Haven Ave. and Valencia Ave., Rancho Cucamonga

SUSPECT: Joseph Myers, 26-years-old, resident of Hemet

Summary:
On Friday, April 3, 2020 at about 1:30 am, deputies on patrol observed the driver of a U-Haul truck commit several traffic violations. When deputies attempted to stop the truck, the driver, later identified as Joseph Myers, accelerated in an attempt to evade police. Myers drove recklessly through a neighborhood and ran several stop signs. Myers drove onto Ambrosia Dr. and when he reached the end of the cul-de-sac, he jumped out of the vehicle and ran allowing the truck to roll and crash into a gate. Deputies jumped the fence and immediately followed Myers but lost visual of him. Deputies found fresh footprints in the dirt and continued their search. Sheriff’s Aviation was dispatched and found the suspect hiding in the backyard of a residence about two houses down from where the deputies were searching. Deputies located Myers and gave him commands to surrender but he ignored the deputies’ commands and resisted arrest. Deputies gained control of Myers and arrested him for evading police. A search of the truck revealed Myers was in possession of burglary tools. Upon investigation, deputies determined Myers was in the area looking for a place to burglarize. Myers was booked at the West Valley Detention Center where he is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.
