Major Crimes Task Force Makes Arrest In Neighborhood With Recent Gang Graffiti

CRIME/CHARGES:
 

  • 11370.1(a) H&S – Possession of Controlled Substance w/Firearm
  • 25850(c)(6) PC - Carrying Loaded Unregistered Firearm
  • 25850(c)(3) PC – Gang Member in Possession of a Firearm
  • 29800 (a)(1) PC - Felon in Possession of Firearm
  • 30305 (a)(1) PC - Felon in Possession of Ammunition 
  • 496(a) PC – Possession of Stolen Property 
SUSPECT: Guerrero, Luis - 37 year old, Pomona resident

NARRATIVE: 

On Thursday, April 3, 2020; Officers from the Pomona Police Department's, Major Crimes Task Force (MCTF) were providing extra patrol to a neighborhood that had been recently targeted with an intentional influx of gang graffiti. The graffiti suggested a current feud between three rival gangs. While in the area Officers saw, Luis Guerrero, a known gang member, attempt to hide from them behind a truck. During this time he had dropped a backpack and a metal object. Suspect Guerrero was contacted and found to have possession of keys to the stolen truck he hid behind. Officers checked the area where he made an attempt to hide and found a loaded, 9mm handgun. Inside of backpack there was methamphetamine packaged for sales. A further search of his property revealed a scale and hypodermic needles. Guerrero was taken into-custody and arrested for the aforementioned charges. Officers contacted the owner of the stolen truck who expressed his appreciation for Officers locating his property and returning it to him quickly.
 
UNIT:
 
The Pomona Police Department’s, Major Crimes Task Force (MCTF) is a specialized unit within the police department that is responsible for suppressing gang violence, investigating drug offenses and pursuing wanted persons. The team is comprised of two supervisors, five officers and two additional officers from the California Highway Patrol – Baldwin Park Office.
