The latest statistics related to the COVID-19 Coronavirus from Governor Murphy’s office this afternoon includes 3,489 new positive test results in New Jersey for a statewide total of 25,590.  South Brunswick Township has been notified of 1 new case today, a female in her 20’s who is recovering at home.  South Brunswick now has a total of 47 positive cases.

CDC RECOMMENDATION - In light of new data, along with evidence of widespread transmission in communities across the country, CDC recommends the community use of cloth masks as an additional public health measure people can take to prevent the spread of virus to those around them.
   

MESSAGES FROM GOVERNOR MURPHY AND STATE HEALTH COMMISSIONER:  

• Of the statewide deaths, one percent were less than 30 years of age, while 47% were over the age of 80 with 39% of that group documenting preexisting conditions. In addition, 21% of the individuals who died were associated with long-term care facilities. 
• The 182 new deaths just reported, a 51% increase from Wednesday, was more than the sum of the first 15 days since the state reported its first death.  “I know these numbers are stark,” Murphy said. “They are certainly sobering. We can lower these numbers.”
• New Jersey has completed a total of 59,110 tests with 43% of the tests coming back positive as of Thursday. 
• Long-term care facilities are a big concern for New Jersey, state Health Commissioner Judith Persichilli said Thursday. Of the 375 long-term care facilities in the state, 110 have confirmed at least one coronavirus case. 
• Persichilli again said she did not have figures for how many people who have tested positive for COVID-19 in the state have been hospitalized, compared to how many are home or recovering.  “Once we have that, I can share that,” she said. “We just don’t have it now.”

FEMA MEDICAL STATIONS UNDER CONSTRUCTION:  The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has been constructing a 250-bed FEMA medical station at the Meadowlands, which officials said will serve as a step-down facility for people being hospitalized.  Three other sites will follow in Edison, Atlantic City, and another to be determined.  The Edison site — which will have two hospitals, totaling 500 beds — is scheduled to open April 8.  

SOCIAL SECURITY RECIPIENTS WILL AUTOMATICALLY GET STIMULUS CHECKS STARTING APRIL 17:  After some misinformation and confusion, the federal government has clarified how Social Security recipients will get their stimulus checks from the coronavirus relief package starting April 17.  The Treasury Department said that Social Security recipients won’t have to file a tax return to get their stimulus payment. Instead, it will go out automatically.
