Senator Dianne Feinstein released information on the $2 trillion coronavirus stimulus package signed last week, which includes new unemployment benefits for self-employed, part-time and gig workers who were not previously eligible for such benefits. These workers were made eligible because the economic damage caused by the coronavirus is “the economic damage caused by the coronavirus isn’t discriminating between different types of workers and so neither should federal benefits.” Senator Feinstein encourages all Californians who have lost their jobs because of the pandemic to apply for unemployment benefits, if needed. All residents should continue to remain inside their homes unless it is absolutely necessary to leave in order to perform essential functions. Each time you leave your home, even without symptoms, you put yourself and anyone near you at risk for contracting and spreading COVID-19.
