Advisory

March 30, 2020 Coronavirus Update from Burr Ridge Mayor Gary Grasso.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM MAYOR GRASSO ON COVID-19 / CORONAVIRUS
Monday, March 30, 2020

GOVERNOR’S STAY-AT-HOME ORDER EFFECTIVE THRU APRIL 7

We are into another week of Stay-At-Home. We must recommit to obeying the Governor’s Order while taking solace and confidence in the fact that Illinois may well reap the benefits of an aggressive program to keep us separated – and thus, as safe as possible. Social distancing is the new norm – for good reasons.

News reports are now leading with the increased frequency and quicker response of COVID-19 testing. As noted yesterday, Abbott Labs reports that it has received FDA approval for its rapid COVID-19 test that may be able to detect a positive result in 5 minutes and negatives in 14 minutes. Increases in the number of positive test results is providing better identification of those who must isolate. Testing may lead to an avenue toward care – but it is also crucial to better identify those who must stay home and not venture out – and keep all of us better protected from the spread of the virus. Before long, the hope is that the number of positive cases remains level and/or decreases as the number of total tests increases – this will be evidence of “flattening the curve” working.

Harvester Place reported one positive case to me today. We must assume there are persons with COVID-19 in the Village whom we have not been told about, or who themselves do not know because they have mild symptoms, or have not been or do not qualify to be tested. That is why we must continue to strictly obey the SAH Order, keep 6-foot or greater social distancing and wash hands thoroughly and regularly.

Burr Ridge resident and my friend Bo Jackson is promoting a slogan to live by during these trying times: “The Cure is US.”  This slogan will remind all of us that our vigilance will win the fight against COVID-19. You will see banners with this slogan on the two terraces of the County Line Road Bridge, at the entrance to the Downtown and at Plainfield and County Line Road.

More doctors are stepping up. Dr. Muhammad Hamadeh of the Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS) Midwest Chapter wants SAMS to help seniors in the community. SAMS is assembling a group of physicians (many who live in Burr Ridge) ready to volunteer their services. There will be a hotline open 24 hours per day that you can call for medical advice or questions from your home – if you do not have a doctor of your own to call. A nurse or medical assistant will triage calls and the doctors will advise as needed via telephone or even video conference – no charge. As soon as the hotline is open, we will provide a number.

Go to www.burr-ridge.gov to find a list of our restaurants and counter service food establishments that are providing take-out meals. Place your orders and help them get through this crisis. The Village also has a complete list of all business resources available on our website for any business in need of help during this time.
