APD information regarding the Mayor's Stay-at-Home Order

With the Mayor’s Stay-at-Home Order, the Amarillo Police Department would like to answer some questions about enforcement. It is important to know that APD will NOT be stopping pedestrians or vehicles solely to investigate violations of the Stay-at-Home Order. Any stops that the Amarillo Police Department conduct will be for on-view violations based on probable cause, just as they would prior to all Covid-19 measures. As always, we encourage everyone to continue following all laws.

Travel Permits are not required in the city of Amarillo, as per the mayor’s declaration. APD officers will NOT stop anyone to check if they are permitted to travel.

The Amarillo Police Department is committed to doing our part to help flatten the curve. One issue that has been brought to our attention is groups of people gathering at various locations. Officers, in their daily activity, will ask large groups to disperse as recommended in all prevention information. Self-compliance is the desired outcome of this Stay-at-Home Order.

The best way to avoid further spread of this virus is to stay at home if you can. It is also vitally important to practice social distancing while getting out for necessities. For the most up to date information about Amarillo area Covid-19 go to www.amarilloalerts.com
