Advisory

March 28, 2020 Coronavirus update from Burr Ridge Mayor Gary Grasso.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM MAYOR GRASSO ON COVID-19 / CORONAVIRUS
March 28, 2020
GOVERNOR’S STAY-AT-HOME ORDER EFFECTIVE THRU APRIL 7

Are you getting exercise – inside your home or maybe around your grounds? Remember that our playgrounds are closed by the Governor’s SAH Order. I have coordinated with the directors of our two park districts to make sure athletic courts also are closed, and that those of you who go to the parks are keeping 6-feet or more social distancing. Obey the Governor’s SAH Order. We are monitoring Village compliance daily and if need be will take whatever action we are allowed to take to enforce the Order to keep Burr Residents safe.

House Calls: A few calls have come in to our doctor volunteers. Our seniors and mobility challenged residents - if you do not have a doctor, these dedicated Burr Ridge professionals may be able to perform a wellness check for you - at no charge. They are: Dr. Farah Fakouri, MD (630- 706-0230), Dr. Katy Schmelka, MD (312-835-9973), Dr. Taaha Shakir, MD (917-686-5676), and Dr. Yaser Wafai (773-991-0000), MD. The goal is to keep hospital visits down.

Today, I called each of our four senior centers and confirmed that there are no new cases at these facilities. The one Brookdale resident who tested positive remains isolated and is doing well. We know of another village resident who tested positive over a week ago and apparently is progressing well at her home here. I explained yesterday that it is difficult to learn about positive cases in the Village because health officials will not disclose to any mayor that there are persons in a Village that have tested positive. Health officials release statewide and countywide numbers, but go no further. I have learned of positive cases only after asking regularly – for example, of our senior centers – or when a person or family member volunteers to tell me, as happened yesterday. We must assume there are persons with COVID-19 in the Village whom we have not been told about, or who themselves do not know because they have mild symptoms, or have not been or do not qualify to be tested. That is why we must continue to strictly obey the SAH Order, keep 6-foot or greater social distancing and wash hands thoroughly and regularly.

Village staff is following the federal and state COVID-19 aid laws that are being passed. On Monday, March 30, staff will begin to educate our business community about available assistance programs through the state and federal government, such as the Small Business Administration and Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. Staff will be available to assist any business with applications for the available programs. This information will also be published on the Village website over the weekend: www.burr-ridge.gov.

Support our restaurants and counter service food establishments by ordering take-out meals. Go to our website to find a list of the restaurants and establishments that are providing take-out. If you must shop, several of our stores and shops are open in the Village Center and County Line Square.
