Advisory

UPDATE 3/28, 10AM – State Parks aligns with LA County by closing its beaches & trails.

Malibu City Hall is closed. However, essential City staff, including the Emergency Operations Team, are working. The Emergency Operations Center (EOC) was activated on March 13 and is operating 7 days a week. Staff is answering the City’s main phone line (310-456-2489) but, due to the high number of calls, it is recommended that residents email [email protected] for the quickest response. Thank you for your patience – we will respond as quickly as possible.

STATE PARKS CLOSES ALL ITS BEACHES & TRAILS
Effective immediately and until further notice, California State Parks-Angeles District will close public access to all trails, parks, and beaches within Los Angeles County in alignment with partner agencies, including the County of Los Angeles, which closed all its beaches and trails on March 27. State Parks staff is posting signage at all trails and beach access points prohibiting access. This order will not be in effect for Ventura County, which has not yet issued a Public Health closure, so the Point Mugu State Park area is not included at this time. In order to mitigate the impacts to Point Mugu State Park, and for the safety of the public, Caltrans will place ‘No Parking’ signs along both sides of PCH in that area. To reinforce the closure in LA County, ‘No Parking’ signs will be posted to support the closures at Leo Carrillo State Park and RH Meyers State Beaches (La Piedra, El Pescador, and El Matador). Read the State Parks announcement at https://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=30355.

The City, in cooperation with Caltrans, is posting ‘No Parking’ signs along sections of PCH and certain City streets to hinder anyone from attempting to access beaches or trails closed Friday by the Los Angeles County Health Officer’s order and effective Saturday with the announcement from California State Parks that it was closing all State-owned beaches and trails throughout LA County. USNS MERCY ARRIVES IN PORT OF LOS ANGELES
Governor Newsom and LA Mayor Eric Garcetti were on hand at the Port of Los Angeles to welcome the US Navy Ship Mercy and its 800 medical professionals. USNS Mercy will be used to treat non-COVID-19 patients in order to relieve the burden on the region’s hospitals preparing for a surge in coronavirus patients. With its 1000 beds, the USNS Mercy, at full capacity, increases LA area hospital capacity by 2/3 and becomes the largest hospital in Los Angeles.

NEW ORDERS DIRECT SELF-QUARANTINE IF EXPOSED AND SELF-ISOLATION IF DIAGNOSED OR SHOWING SYMPTOMS OF COVID-19
In an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19, protect vulnerable individuals, and prevent the LA County healthcare system from being overwhelmed, the County Health Officer issued two new separate orders:
• Self-quarantine of anyone exposed to an individual diagnosed with or likely to have COVID-19.
• Self-isolation of anyone diagnosed with or showing symptoms consistent with COVID-19 within 14 days of being in close contact with a person who had or was believed to have COVID-19.

These new Orders ensure that individuals who test positive for COVID-19, and those who are told by a clinician they are presumed to be positive for COVID-19, are required to self-isolate for a period of at least three days without symptoms, including being fever-free without taking medicine, and seven days since symptoms started, whichever is longer.  Additionally, those who have been in close contact with someone who is positive or presumed positive must quarantine themselves for 14 days from the last time they had contact with the ill person.
