Ocean Township OEM Covid-19 Update (03-27-2020)

Ocean Township Office of Emergency Management

Thursday, March 27th, 2020

The Ocean Township Office of Emergency Management continues to work with the Ocean Township Police Department, Waretown First Aid Squad, Waretown Fire Company and the Township of Ocean Committee along with officials from the county, state, health department and school district to address this ever changing situation.

This afternoon, the Ocean County Health Department notified the Ocean Township Office of Emergency Management that one (1) township resident has tested positive for the COVID-19 Coronavirus. This brings the total of positive residents of Ocean Township to three (3).

At this time, the Ocean County Health Department is leading the investigation in the case and is the agency responsible for additional notifications. As testing sites and the availability of tests within the southern part of the state increase we will inevitably see an increase of positive cases within our town, this has been expected and it has been planned for.

For a full review of all cases within Ocean County please visit the Ocean County Health Department Website: https://www.ochd.org/covid-19-case-totals/

As time progresses, the Office of Emergency Management will provide you with regular briefings on what is taking place in the community. We will keep you updated on information on closings and postponements and the latest information concerning the virus from county and state offices as it applies to the Township of Ocean.

Ocean Township Police Department – Chief Michal J. Rogalski

The police department has received numerous reports of people throwing their masks and used gloves in the parking lots of local businesses. This is littering and unsanitary not to mention we live on the Barnegat Bay and will eventually hurt the ecosystem. Clean up after yourself!

Waretown Fire Company #1 - Chief Brent Cunningham:

A reminder from the FD that an active alarm is one which sounds continuously, and that is a time for contacting the FD and evacuating the residence.

But, that fire and smoke alarms which ‘chirp’ intermittently every 30 or 45 seconds are not activated alarms and are not an emergency. Those chirps indicate that either the battery is nearing the end of its use, or the alarm is. Please do not call emergency numbers for these events.

Waretown First id Squad - Captain Michael Kane:

The Waretown First Aid Squad would like all the residents of Ocean Twp. to be aware and understand that the Waretown First Aid Squad will continue to take every precaution to protect our providers and our patients. Our providers will be donning personal protection equipment on every request for service. Additionally will be putting a mask on every patient, regardless of the nature of the call. We appreciate your understanding in this matter, and for your cooperation in keeping both the members of this agency, and our residents safe.

Township of Ocean – Municipal Court
