Narrative:

(S) Stephen Montijo was arrested for two counts of attempted murder after he attacked two people with a sword.

On 03/26/2020, deputies from the Camarillo Police Department responded to the 3000 block of Penzance Avenue regarding an assault with a deadly weapon.  Upon arrival, deputies contacted two adult victims, who were suffering from several lacerations.  Both victims required transport to a local hospital for treatment.

An investigation revealed that Montijo went to the victims’ residence while armed with a large sword.  He subsequently attacked both of them with the sword while outside of their residence.  Ultimately, the victims were able to escape the attack, and Montijo fled the area. Both victims were able to identify Montijo by name as they knew him from previous contacts.

While the deputies were conducting the initial investigation, the Sheriff’s Communication Center received a call of a second disturbance involving Montijo in the 400 block of Commons Park Drive.  Deputies responded to the location and arrested Montijo.

Montijo was booked at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility for two felony counts of Penal Code section 664/187(a) – Attempted homicide, and one felony count of Penal Code section 203 – Mayhem.  Montijo is scheduled to appear in Ventura County Superior Court on 03/30/2020 and his bail has been set at $590,000.00.

Detectives believe that all involved parties have been identified in this crime, and there is no current threat to public safety.  However, anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to contact Detective Gabe Gonzales at (805) 384-4745.
