Community Rallying to Help Out

South Brunswick Office of Emergency Management Director Chief Raymond Hayducka said, “This week has been challenging for everyone, but as a community, we are getting through it together. There has been a lot of people helping out and I want to make sure the community knows about all the positive actions people are taking.” Chief Hayducka explained that the vast majority of residents are following the Governor’s Executive Orders including social distancing. He pointed to some of the good works around town as signs of hope –

  • South Brunswick School District collected all their medical supplies and donated them to EMS and the police department. They donated over 7000 pairs of gloves, 800 surgical adult masks,  400 pediatric surgical masks,  multiple thermometers, and 7 emergency medical bags.
  • South Brunswick Social Services conducted a food and fundraising effort over the past week. The Food Pantry collected thousands of food items and over $20,000 in financial donations. Local businesses including Confectionately Yours assisted in raising funds. The need will grow in the coming weeks and days; if you would like to donate click on the link - https://register.capturepoint.com/reg/donation_detail.cfm?s=IuxMAfrQx8s=&organization_id=154&product_id=9222&season_id=12474&source=donation
  • Four Seasons Development of South Brunswick conducted a food drive this week. With the assistance of the South Brunswick Public Works staff, all the donated food was added to the shelves of the food pantry.
  • CafĂ© Amici and residents teamed up to deliver meals to the entire Emergency Room staff at Raritan Bay Medical Center.
  • Wawa, Capriccios Italian Restaurant and Pizzeria, Harbor Chase and the Islamic Center of Central New Jersey have all donated food to the police department this week.
  • One local group of residents collected and delivered supplies to the nurses at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.
  • Home Depot, Wakefern Food, Coca-Cola, L’Oreal and Trish Pharma have all donated needed masks and supplies to help us.

There is a lot of good being done around town, so hang in there.

NJ DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH -SOCIAL DISTANCING GUIDANCE FOR ESSENTIAL BUSINESSES:

Social distancing involves taking measures to slow the spread of COVID-19 by limiting the opportunities for exposure. The general recommendation is to avoid crowds and close contact by keeping six feet between yourself and others. When social distancing is properly implemented, it can be an important strategy to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

Patrons entering essential retail businesses should abide by the following guidelines:

• If an individual must leave home to access essential goods, they are encouraged to go at non-peak times, to keep a distance from other customers in the store, keep visits as brief as possible, and to go alone if possible.
• When shopping and standing in line, customers should keep six feet between themselves and other patrons/staff.
• Individuals should not enter a retail facility if they have symptoms consistent with COVID-19 (such as fever or cough), have been diagnosed with COVID-19, or are undergoing quarantine for potential exposure to COVID-19.
