MARCH 26, 2020 COVID-19 UPDATE

Statistics Show Change in Ages Affected:
Based on information from the California Department of Public Health, as of March 26, 2020 the state of California has 3,729 confirmed cases of coronavirus with 78 deaths. 
However, an age breakdown based on data gathered as of March 23, 2020 represents a shift from what we had been seeing in regards to the virus primarily affecting seniors. The latest statistics (below) show that the 18-45 age range is also strongly affected. This reinforces the need for residents to continue to practice good hygiene, social distancing, and follow the guidelines of the Shelter in Place Order as much as possible.

  • 531- community transmissions.
  • 1571 other (travel/ person to Person/ under investigation)
    • 31 health care workers
    • 31 Californians from the Grand Princess, 85 including those from out of state.
  • 40- deaths (Includes one non-California resident). Also includes the first youth death due to COVID-19.

  • 0-17 years of age: 28 - 1%
  • 18-45 years of age: 970 - 50%
  • 50-64 years of age: 493 - 26%
  • 65 years and older: 449 - 23%

Park Closures:
Beginning on March 27, 2020, the East Bay Regional Park District is instituting the closure of several of its parks or parking lots as a result of the coronavirus. This follows the action taken by the State of California, which closed several of their facilities following large crowds over the weekend.  While the community is encouraged to get out and utilize hiking and biking trails in the area, it is imperative that social distancing is maintained to help limit the spread of the virus.  The list of parks affected by the EBRPD’s order can be found at www.ebparks.org. At this time, Las Trampas and other Danville adjacent park district trails are not affected.
 
Tax Deadline Extension:
In response to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak, the federal government has extended the deadline for filing taxes to July 15.
 
Shelter Order Violations:
Our police department continues to see groups of children in play areas, adults gathering, and businesses remaining open, despite the county and state’s Shelter in Place Order. We understand that sheltering in place and self-isolation present a significant hardship, however we cannot stress enough the importance of taking as many precautions as possible to limit contact with others and curb the spread of the coronavirus.  We know that it is difficult, especially when others are not taking similar precautions, but we will continue to educate our community on this issue. Stopping the spread of the virus and flattening the curve will help get us out of this shelter order that much sooner. 
 
 
 
Town Facility Maintenance:
We have received questions from residents asking why the Town parks were being mowed when gardeners were listed as non-essential services in the shelter order.  To explain, first let us say that all non-essential landscape maintenance has been halted (roadside greenspaces, pruning, aerating etc). And the parks are being mowed only on an as-needed basis.  Under the shelter order, the Town can maintain essential facilities. And since residents are being encouraged to continue to use the parks, it is necessary to keep them in decent shape for use.  We fully recognize the need to do this sparingly, and just to the point that the parks are safe for the community to use.
