Advisory

March 26, 2020 Coronavirus update from Burr Ridge Mayor Gary Grasso.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM MAYOR GRASSO ON COVID-19 / CORONAVIRUS

March 26, 2020

GOVERNOR’S STAY-AT-HOME ORDER EFFECTIVE THRU APRIL 7

Our parks are open for exercise and enjoyment BUT our Playgrounds are Closed by the Governor’s SAH Order. Please do not let your loved ones used the playgrounds. Congregating in large groups in parks is extremely discouraged.

Please obey the Governor’s SAH Order. We are monitoring compliance daily and if need be will take whatever action we are allowed to take to enforce the Order to keep Burr Ridge residents safe.

Today, I learned of the first positive case of coronavirus in Burr Ridge; the resident has been quarantined at their home. I am told the resident is otherwise showing good health, which is encouraging and hopeful. Separately, Brookdale officials informed me late this morning that three former and current residents have tested positive, so far, including the one former resident I had reported to you who had tested positive while in an area hospital outside of Burr Ridge. One of the other two Brookdale residents that tested positive was taken to an area hospital with underlying health issues and has since passed away. The third resident remains at Brookdale and has been quarantined since the test result was known. I was assured that Brookdale is complying with all Health Department protocols and going above them by taking temperatures of the resident population three times daily, and before and mid-shift of each staff caregiver. In addition, one Brookdale staff member had tested positive, has been quarantined at home and is no longer working in the facility. There has been a no-visitor policy at Brookdale since March 11.

We must obey the SAH Order – do not relax, keep your guard up. Continue to be the good examples for your friends and neighbors that I know you are. The threat remains clear and present.

Reminder: Brookhaven is open for business. You can shop – keep strict social distancing – but try ordering ahead and using curbside pickup. It is very convenient and does not require you to enter the store. Most of our restaurants, our bakery, and counter eateries are open for take-out and curbside pick-up as well. Some shops in the Village Center and County Line Square are open too – but only go out if you must! Check www.burr-ridge.gov for listings of open restaurants and counter eateries for take-out, along with shop hours.

Village staff is preparing an outreach program to educate our business community about available assistance programs through the state and federal government, such as the Small Business Administration. We will begin contacting our business community on March 30. Staff should be able to assist the business community with applying for the grant and loan programs that are available. All programs will be clearly listed on the Village website for ease of reference.
