Beware of SCAMS
The Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office is still receiving many calls for service involving potential SCAMS. The Suspected SCAMMERS continue to contact residents in our communities attempting to gather money and personal information. These SCAMS include but are not limited to:
- Family SCAMS - Where the SCAMMER says they are a distant family member and need money (Cash or Gift Cards) because they are in trouble. The SCAMMERS are normally out of State.
- Court/Jury/Subpeona SCAMS - Where the SCAMMER tells the reciprient they are with a local law enforcement agency, a local and/or federal court and because the reciprient failed to comply with court, a jury duty summons or a subpeona they will have to pay a fine or be subject to arrest by these entities.
- IRS SCAMS - Where the SCAMMER tells the reciprient they are from the IRS and asks the reciprient for personal information which includes date of birth, address, phone number and social security number in order to process their tax return.
