Mayor's Statement & COVID-19 Case Information

The Borough of South River has been notified by the Middlesex County Department of Health that three (3) additional South River residents have tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19), bringing the total number of cases in South River to five (5).

At this time, the Middlesex County Health Department is the lead in the investigation of the cases and is responsible for all notifications. The South River Police Department does not have any further information to share.

Residents are reminded that the best way to protect yourself is to limit your time in public spaces, stay home unless absolutely necessary, practice social distancing guidelines and use proper and frequent hand washing techniques regardless if you think you may have been exposed or not.

Visit www.southriverpd.org/covid-19 for up-to-date local and statewide Coronavirus (COVID-19) information, closures and resources.

A MESSAGE FROM MAYOR JOHN KRENZEL

There is more information to share with you. As I did in my last message, I will not give you the information that you already have but rather try to fill some gaps.

There are now five people in town that have tested positive. They are quarantined. The police and officials do not know who they are. Middlesex County is handling the situation. We can expect more. Remember, we are doing all this shutting down to SLOW the spread, not STOP it.

A Borough employee at the 48 Washington Street office tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. Because of that, the employees and those that came in contact with the employee have self-quarantined. Even though I came in contact with the person and show no signs of the virus, I have self-quarantined myself out of an abundance of caution.

If there is a bill you want to pay, put it into the depository at 48 Washington Street.

For a good place to obtain updated information, visit www.southriverpd.org/covid-19 as this site will be updated with any changes and new information. Yes, it is South River’s own Police Department. Chief Tinitigan is overseeing the Department and making sure that the information that the Department puts out is up-to-date and accurate.

Finally, please, PLEASE use common sense. There is no need to lose sleep or panic. You have heat, electricity, water, telephone service and internet. This is not Sandy. Check in on the elderly and homebound.  Stay six feet away from each other. Be kind to each other and remember to sneeze and cough on your arm and not in your hand and we will all get through this.
