MAJOR BANKS OFFER 90-DAY GRACE PERIOD FOR MORTGAGE PAYMENTS
In his Wednesday afternoon briefing, Governor Newsom stated that families should not lose their homes because of COVID-19. He announced that four of the five major banks, Wells Fargo, Citi, JPMorgan, and US Bank, have agreed to a 90-day grace period on mortgage payments for those impacted by COVID19.

COASTAL COMMISSION APRIL 2020 MEETING CANCELLED
The Coastal Commission announced today that, due to the COVID-19 crisis, the April 2020 Coastal Commission meeting scheduled for April 15-17 is cancelled. For the May meeting, the Commission is working to develop the structure and procedures for a remote or virtual meeting in order to assure the health and safety of the public, commissioners, and staff. Unfortunately, these new measures will not be in place in time for the April hearing. The Commission’s virtual offices remain open. www.coastal.ca.gov

LA COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH OFFICER TO ISSUE NEW ORDERS WITH GUIDANCE FOR SICK OR EXPOSED
The LA County Public Health Officer announced today that new Health Officer Orders will be issued providing guidance for individuals who test positive for COVID-19, those who are told by a clinician they are presumed to be positive for COVID-19, and those who have been in close contact with someone who is positive or presumed positive. FEDERAL RESOURCES FOR REPORTING FRAUD, AMERICANS OVERSEAS, AND MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES The Federal Government has provided online and other resources for Americans during the COVID-19 crisis. The official federal website is www.Coronavirus.com. Residents may report disaster fraud by calling 866-720-5721 or by email to [email protected]. Americans currently overseas who need assistance getting home can enroll in the US Dept of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program at https://step.state.gov/. Americans needing mental health or substance abuse assistance can contact the Federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s national hotline at 800-662-HELP (4357).

UNITED WAY LA ACCEPTING DONATIONS TO NEW PANDEMIC RELIEF FUND
United Way of Greater Los Angeles announced the creation of the Pandemic Relief Fund to support LA County’s unsheltered residents who are especially vulnerable to the coronavirus, as well as low-income individuals, students, and families at imminent risk of homelessness and hardships due to health and economic impacts of coronavirus. SOME STORES ASKING CUSTOMERS TO TEMPORARILY STOP BRINGING REUSABLE BAGS
Some stores, both local and across the country, are beginning to ask shoppers to temporarily not use reusable bags as a way to reduce potential COVID-19 contamination. Residents who bring reusable bags to the grocery store are urged to wash them after every use and offer to bag their own groceries out of consideration for the health of grocery store workers. However, all shoppers should comply if the store employee requests that only store-supplied bags be used based on direction from store management.

CITY LAUNCHES VIRTUAL RECREATION CENTER
In keeping with the Community Services Dept’s commitment to provide resources to help the community maintain healthy lives and mental wellness while they stay home together, it has launched the Virtual Recreation Center to bring fitness, arts, education, and enrichment programs and resources into the homes of Malibu’s families. CITY REMINDS RESIDENTS HOW TO PROTECT SEPTIC SYSTEMS
Residents whose homes use Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems (OWTS), also known as septic systems, should avoid flushing disposable wipes and certain other harmful items down the toilet. Many types of personal wipes and solid hygiene products do not fall apart in buildings’ drainpipes, and can clog septic system pipes and pumps. Under “Safer at Home” orders, Malibu residents are spending more time in their homes and using more potentially harmful products, all of which increases the need for residents to keep a closer eye on their septic systems. Dial-a-Ride is operating for seniors needing transportation to medical appointments or other necessary locations. Reservations can be made by calling 424-346-8444. Dial-a-Ride program hours are Monday through Wednesday, 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM, and Thursday and Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

CORONAVIRUS PREPAREDNESS AND RESPONSE
The City of Malibu continues to monitor the status of the Coronavirus and implement measures to protect public health and safety and is doing everything possible to support vulnerable community members.  The City continues to follow the recommendations of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LADPH), California Office of Emergency Services (CALOES) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and is taking steps to reduce the likelihood of community spread. 

All Residents should be complying with the State’s “Stay at Home” order, and leaving their homes only to conduct essential business, such as grocery shopping, medical appointments. Residents should also connect with neighbors, particularly seniors or those with underlying health conditions, to see if they need help in any way.
