Advisory

March 25, 2020 Coronavirus update from Burr Ridge Mayor Gary Grasso.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM MAYOR GRASSO ON COVID-19 / CORONAVIRUS

March 25, 2020

GOVERNOR’S STAY-AT-HOME ORDER EFFECTIVE THRU APRIL 7

Our parks are open for exercise and enjoyment BUT our Playgrounds Are Closed by the Governor’s SAH Order.  Please do not let your loved ones use the playgrounds.

An additional 330 new cases were confirmed today by the Illinois Department Public Health (yesterday there were 250 new cases reported).  Total Illinois cases stand at 1,865 today. So, we must keep our guards up and comply with the Governor’s SAH Order. The Order also permits you to go for a jog or a long walk. Exercise is an important element in maintaining good mental and emotional health during these difficult times.  Burr Ridge has a great pathway network – please try to use those pathways to lift your spirits.  Spring is here – look at the bright side.

Even with yesterday and today’s report of new cases, thus far, there still have been no reported cases in Burr Ridge.  As noted yesterday, I was informed that a former resident of Brookdale, while at an area hospital for other medical reasons tested positive at that hospital.  Apparently the test result was reported on March 17.   I’ve been told that he is doing fine and has not returned to Brookdale.  We do not know if he had the virus while at Brookdale or acquired it later after leaving Brookdale. Alarmist reporting is misguided in my opinion.  What is important, is that another day has passed with no cases documented at Brookdale or in Burr Ridge.  Nonetheless, we must stay focused, vigilant and positive - and follow the Governor’s SAH Order.

Dr. Russ Petrak informed me today that yesterday and today Metro Infectious Disease Consultants is screening about 20 people and testing about 15 patients each day.  MIDC has oral test kits.  Tests are turning around in two days, so far.  The goal of the MIDC program is to test only those that could possibly need medical attention and ensure availability of care throughout this crisis – and try to keep people out of the hospital where the most serious cases should take precedence. If you believe you are symptomatic, you can contact MIDC first for screening and find out if you qualify to be tested: call (630) 655-8032 or (630) 654-4201. Please join me in thanking our own Russ Petrak and his MIDC group for helping to keep Burr Ridge "A Very Special Place."

Village staff is preparing an outreach program to educate our business community about available assistance programs through the state and federal government, such as the Small Business Administration. The business community should expect to begin receiving free assistance in the coming days and weeks about applying for these programs. Stay tuned!
