IMPD Public Safety Advisory: Resources Available to Report Child Abuse, Neglect During Stay-At-Home Order
INDIANAPOLIS – While families are staying home to help reduce the spread of COVID-19, children in our community may be spending more time in an unsafe environment. Residents are asked to look out for our city’s youth, and alert authorities if you suspect a child may be the victim of abuse or neglect.
To report child abuse or neglect, call the Indiana Child Abuse and Neglect Hotline at 1-800-800-5556. The hotline is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including weekends and holidays. Reports of abuse and neglect can be made anonymously.
An intake specialist will ask for information about the circumstances creating a risk of harm to the child including:
- Who was involved
- What occurred
- When and where it occurred
- The extent of any injuries sustained
- Any other relevant information
Residents and affected workers impacted by COVID-19 restrictions should visit the city’s resource guide, which can be viewed at indy.gov/covid. Spanish speaking residents can view the resource guide here. Individuals who are unable to navigate the city’s website can call 317-327-4MAC between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. to talk to a customer service representative. Those in need of non-emergency police services should call 317-327-3811.
