March 24, 2020 Coronavirus update from Burr Ridge Mayor Gary Grasso.
IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM MAYOR GRASSO ON COVID-19 / CORONAVIRUS
March 24, 2020
GOVERNOR’S STAY-AT-HOME ORDER EFFECTIVE THRU APRIL 7
The Governor conducted another conference call today with the state’s mayors, where he informed us that residents appear to be following his Order. An additional 250 new cases were confirmed today, which means that the numbers have plateaued this week, but do not let your guard down. During the call, we also were told that schools are being allowed to open their facilities for emergency childcare in coordination with local school officials. The Order also permits you to go for a jog or a long walk; my wife Janet and I took a long walk yesterday and again today. Spring is here, the grass is getting greener, trees and bushes are budding. Exercise is an important element in maintaining good mental and emotional health during these difficult times.
Thus far, there have been no reported cases in Burr Ridge. A former resident of Brookdale, while at an area hospital for other medical reasons tested positive at that hospital last week. I’ve been told that he is doing fine and has not returned to Brookdale. I called the Brookdale director yesterday and she informed me there are no reported cases there. Please stay vigilant and follow the Governor’s SAH Order.

I want to share a story showing how Metro Infectious Disease Consultants’ is helping. A Burr Ridge resident was exposed to a COVID-19-positive person on March 3 and called MIDC about whether that exposure qualified for a test. MIDC explained that since the exposure occurred more than 14 days ago, the person was likely not ill and did not qualify for a test. This is the goal of the MIDC program – test only those that could possibly need medical attention and ensure availability of care throughout this crisis. You must call MIDC first before being tested for COVID-19; to find out if you qualify to be tested, call (630) 655-8032 or (630) 654-4201. Please join me in thanking resident Russ Petrak’s MIDC group for helping to keep Burr Ridge "A Very Special Place."
Village staff is currently preparing an outreach program to educate our business community about available assistance programs through the state and federal government, such as the Small Business Administration. The business community should expect to begin receiving free assistance in the coming days and weeks about applying for these programs. Stay tuned!
