NEW HOURS FOR SMMUSD MEAL PICKUP – M-F, 8-10AM
Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District (SMMUSD) continues to provide free breakfast and lunch to all students under the age of 18. Pickup hours at Webster Elementary School and three schools in Santa Monica is changing to weekdays from 8:00 – 10:00 AM. All students under the age of 18 will be served grab-and-go bagged meals for breakfast and lunch. A parent or guardian must be present, except for high school students on their own. If you or your child are sick, please do not come to the school.

LANE CLOSURES – REPAIR WORK ON CIVIC CENTER WAY
Work on a City storm drain project requiring the closure of Civic Center Way between Winter Cyn Rd and the Malibu Cyn Village begins Wednesday, March 25. Families picking up meals at Webster must access the school from PCH by heading north on Malibu Cyn Rd, then east on Civic Center Way to Winter Cyn Rd.

CITY LAUNCHES VIRTUAL RECREATION CENTER
In keeping with the Community Services Dept’s commitment to provide resources to help the community maintain healthy lives and mental wellness while they stay home together, it has launched the Virtual Recreation Center to bring fitness, arts, education, and enrichment programs and resources into the homes of Malibu’s families. SHERIFF’S DEPT WARNS OF SCAMS AND ONLINE HACKING
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Dept (LASD) Fraud & Cyber Crimes Bureau has seen an increase in fake emails, texts, and phishing scams related to the COVID-19 emergency. Criminals use fake emails or texts to get individuals to share valuable personal information, such as account numbers, Social Security numbers, or login IDs and passwords. LASD advises individuals: Do not click on unknown links, either from your cell phone or your computer; instead, go to trusted websites by typing in the URL yourself. STATE PARKS CLOSES DAY-USE PARKING LOTS
The Angeles District of State Parks announced day-use parking lot closures to alleviate the ongoing issues of social distancing witnessed over the past week and to align with local partners. While the parking lots will be closed, visitors will still be permitted to go to the beach, hike on the trails, and use restroom facilities. Lots closed include: Pt Mugu State Park (including all campgrounds); Leo Carillo State Park; RH Meyer State Beach (El Matador, La Piedra, El Pescador); Malibu Creek SP and Malibu Lagoon State Beach (SB); Point Dume Nature Preserve; Topanga State Park (including Trippet Ranch and Lower Topanga); Will Rogers State Park; and Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook (lower and upper lots). The State Parks closures follow the announcement on Monday that the LA County Sheriff’s Dept closed all beach parking lots in the City of Malibu to support local residents and discourage non-residents from visiting its beaches, and Sunday’s announcements that the National Parks Service (NPS) was closing Solstice Canyon, and Mountains Recreations & Conservation Authority (MRCQA) closed all parks, trails, and building facilities, including public restrooms, owned by MRCA and the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy (SMMC). https://mrca.ca.gov/notifications.%20/

WEEKLY EMERGENCY OPERATIONS CENTER (EOC) UPDATE - The City of Malibu activated its Emergency Operations Center (EOC) on March 13 and EOC staff have been working seven days a week since that time to respond to the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic crisis. GOVERNOR AUTHORIZES LOCAL AGENCIES TO ENFORCE AGAINST PRICE GOUGING, HOARDING, AND NON-COMPLIANCE WITH SOCIAL DISTANCING AT BEACHES
In his press conference Monday afternoon, Governor Newsom announced great strides made in the State’s efforts to stop the spread of the virus, including a surge plan for securing hospital beds and housing for individuals experiencing homelessness. He applauded the federal government for going after those seeking to make monetary gains during this crisis, and he agreed local and state government agencies also need to strongly enforce and prosecute those found to be price gouging and hoarding vital resources. In response to outrage from residents after a weekend of large crowds at beaches throughout the state, the Governor agreed it may be necessary to step up park patrols to remind visitors of the need for social distancing and fining those who do not comply. He stated he had no plans to have checkpoints around the state, but that local enforcement had been increased.

COUNTY HEALTH OFFICER ISSUES NEW, ENHANCED ORDER
On Monday, the LA County Health Officer issued a new, enhanced order to be consistent with the Governor’s “Stay at Home” Order. The new order instructs all persons to remain in their homes or places of residence, prohibits all gatherings and events, indoor or outdoor, public or private, and orders that all non-essential businesses must close. The order is in effect to April 19, 2020. The order does not prohibit individuals or families from engaging in outdoor activities, such as walking, hiking, biking, shopping at essential businesses or picking up meals, provided social distancing is observed.

CITY REMINDS RESIDENTS HOW TO PROTECT SEPTIC SYSTEMS
Residents whose homes use Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems (OWTS), also known as septic systems, should avoid flushing disposable wipes and certain other harmful items down the toilet. Many types of personal wipes and solid hygiene products do not fall apart in buildings’ drainpipes, and can clog septic system pipes and pumps. Under “Safer at Home” orders, Malibu residents are spending more time in their homes and using more potentially harmful products, all of which increases the need for residents to keep a closer eye on their septic systems. CORONAVIRUS PREPAREDNESS AND RESPONSE
The City of Malibu continues to monitor the status of the Coronavirus and implement measures to protect public health and safety and is doing everything possible to support vulnerable community members.  The City continues to follow the recommendations of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LADPH), California Office of Emergency Services (CALOES) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and is taking steps to reduce the likelihood of community spread. 

All Residents should be complying with the State’s “Stay at Home” order, and leaving their homes only to conduct essential business, such as grocery shopping, medical appointments. Residents should also connect with neighbors, particularly seniors or those with underlying health conditions, to see if they need help in any way.
