Message From Raymond J. Hayducka, Chief of Police / Director of Office of Emergency Management
I want to ensure all of our residents that the South Brunswick Police Department is working diligently to protect and serve our residents. Public safety is and always will be a priority.  Unfortunately, our police officers and civilian staff are not immune from the COVID-19 Virus and are at risk due to the nature of our duties.  This virus has mandated a temporary change in our policing practices. 
The following temporary changes are in effect:

1. The police lobby will be closed for routine matters.  Please do not come to the police department unless it is an emergency.  If you do come to the lobby you will be required to be screened over the phone regarding the services you are inquiring about.

 

2. For non-emergency police matters please call the main number at (732)329-4646. If it is an emergency call 9-1-1 as usual. All other callers should dial (732)329-4000 and follow the prompts for the extension that best suits their needs.

 

3. If you need to file a report you can do so on-line at http://www.sbtnj.net/departments/police.  We will also take reports over the phone if you prefer to speak with an officer or do not have on-line access.

 

4. We will respond to all emergency calls as normal such as crimes in progress, emergency first aid calls, motor vehicle accidents, etc...

 

5. You may come in contact with a police officer that may be wearing personal protection equipment that may include masks, gloves, eye protection, and disposable gowns. Please do not be alarmed. This is for their protection as well as the person(s) they are providing a service to.

 

6. When dealing with a police officer in person they will try and maintain a six-foot distance as recommended by the CDC.  Please do not be offended because we are doing this for your safety as well as the police officer.

 

7. If you need to pick up a police or accident report please email [email protected]. It may take longer than usual but, depending on the nature of the request, we will mail the report to your residence instead of having you pick it up at police department. 

 

8. If you are looking to purchase a firearms I.D. card or purchase permit go to http://www.sbtnj.net/images/departments/police/Firearms_Online_Application_Instructions_FARS.pdf. We will process them as normal but there will be a delay due availability of civilian personnel available to process the firearms related request.  We will contact you ASAP so you can pick them up. At this time the purchase permits and ID card must be picked up in person so you can present your identification. If this rule is modified by the State of New Jersey we will change our practice accordingly. We will have set times when you can pick them up.  Please bring a check or have exact change as per the instructions you will receive.  As stated before, do not be alarmed if the person you are dealing with is wearing personal protection equipment.  It is for everyone’s safety.

 

9. The South Brunswick Police Department as well as law enforcement throughout the State of New Jersey has been tasked with enforcing the lawful executive orders issued by the Governor of the State of New Jersey which prohibits such things as trespassing in closed parks and recreation facilities and gatherings of people more than permitted by the order. The department is seeking your cooperation in voluntary compliance with these directives as we realize they may be inconvenient. 

I want to thank everyone for your anticipated cooperation and understanding as we face these challenging times as a community.  I have been in contact with Mayor Carley and our elected officials, along with our Township Manager on a daily basis.  They have assured me they are committed to public safety. They have been providing all the necessary support in order for the Police Department and Office of Emergency Management to function and serve the needs of our residents.  As a community we will get through this together and I am confident South Brunswick will be stronger than ever.
