IMPD Public Safety Advisory: domestic violence prevention during social distancing
INDIANAPOLIS – With residents encouraged to stay home to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) and community partners like the Domestic Violence Network (DVN) recognize that community members may find themselves contained with an abuser. This social isolation can mean danger for these residents of our city.
There is no excuse for domestic violence. As we all spend more time in our homes, if you find yourself trapped in a dangerous situation, know that you are not alone – there are many resources that remain available.
If you, or someone you know, is in need of immediate help, call: 1-800-799-SAFE (7233)
Those in need of help or safety planning can reach out to one of these organizations:
Beacon of Hope Crisis Center
Families First (Breaking Free)
The Salvation Army/Ruth Lilly Women and Children’s Center
Coburn Place
The Julian Center
Community members who see a neighbor in imminent danger should call 9-1-1. Those wanting to report a case of domestic violence that is not occuring at the moment may do so by calling Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS.
