Letter to the Community. Thanks for the cooperation so far. Practice social distancing. Wash hands. Be safe.
March 21, 2020
Dear Shorewood Community,
First and foremost, I wish to extend to everyone a very sincere “Thank You!” to the community on the manner in which everyone has conducted themselves the past two weeks. Everyone has been wonderful and made the lives of our police, fire, and Village personnel that much easier as we all react to the crisis and the direction we have received from Federal and State authorities.
Today at 5:00 p.m., Governor Pritzker’s Executive “Stay At Home” Order goes into effect until April 7th. The easiest way to understand this declaration is:
Intent of this Executive Order. The intent of this Executive Order is to ensure that the maximum number of people self-isolate in their places of residence to the maximum extent feasible, while enabling essential services to continue, to slow the spread of COVID-19 to the greatest extent possible.
There are a great many details to this order and the word “essential” is being construed broadly to avoid impacts on indispensable entities that contribute to the public welfare. With that being stated, the Shorewood Police Department is here to help the community through this crisis. As part of the community, we understand the confusion and anxiety. Our goal is to work with you to maintain a safe community, mostly through education.
Most of what you currently do, you can still do with proper social distancing. If you need food or gas, go to the grocery store and gas station but practice social distancing. If you want food from a restaurant, order it for delivery or pickup but practice social distancing. If you need to go to the doctor, the bank, or the pharmacy, go but practice social distancing. If you want to get some fresh air because the inhabitants of your residence are driving you to the brink of insanity, go out and get some fresh air by taking a walk, hike or run but practice social distancing. Otherwise, this is a great time to get caught up on those books, movies, honey do projects, and quality family interactions we so often say we have no time for.
We know there are a lot of questions and we will do our best to work with you to answer those questions. Remember the intent of the directive as stated above, practice social distancing, wash your hands, and be as awesome as you have all been these past two weeks and we will ALL get through this together!
Respectfully,
Aaron G. Klima
