City of Seward Has One Positive Test For Coronavirus
Seward, Alaska – On March 18, 2020, City of Seward officials, in conjunction with local healthcare representatives, announced there has been one positive test confirmed for Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). The individual had been traveling out of the country, and self-reported and self-isolated when mild symptoms appeared. The State of Alaska Department of Health & Social Services is currently interviewing the individual and contacting people who may have had interactions with the individual.
The importance of taking measures to “flatten the curve” cannot be emphasized enough. This means that we all must do our part to help mitigate the spread of this virus so that our healthcare professionals are not overrun. Employers are strongly encouraged to allow employees who have returned from travel out of state or out of country to stay at home for 14 days and monitor themselves for symptoms if they are well, and to allow any employees who may show signs of any illness to remain at home in an isolated environment. Anyone experiencing symptoms should immediately self-isolate at home and make arrangements with friends or family to assist with obtaining groceries or medicine, as necessary.
Every individual is encouraged to practice safety measures to mitigate the spread of this virus. If you have to run errands, do so only when you absolutely have to; until then, stay home. Maintain at least a 6 foot distance from others when you are in public, as much as possible. Wash your hands before and after visiting a public location.
Healthcare officials in Seward have reported they have adequate resources to address the current situation, but stress that it is important to call ahead if you think you need to be seen by a healthcare provider.
