Advisory

Temporary changes in police services in response to COVID-19

  • Citizens are asked to use our online reporting system when applicable
  • Officers will handle non-emergency calls via telephone whenever possible
  • The GPD lobby will be closed with very limited exceptions
  • Court ordered registrations:  Wednesdays from 11:00am-1:00pm
Effective immediately, the Gilroy Police Department will be implementing protective measures for police services within the City of Gilroy to help limit the potential spread of the COVID-19 virus. To ensure the Gilroy Police Department is able to provide and maintain a consistent level of quality service throughout this pandemic, we will be taking steps to ensure the safety and protection of our staff.

The Gilroy Police Department is temporarily requiring officers to reduce their in-person responses whenever possible. Non-emergency calls for service will be handled via telephone or referred to our online reporting system. For all non-emergency calls an officer will contact the citizen via telephone. For all calls requiring an emergency response, our officers will follow standard response procedures.

In addition, we have also restricted access to our front lobby. Anyone coming to the Gilroy Police Department to make a report, obtain a vehicle release, etc., will need to use their cellular phone or the outside callbox next to the front lobby doors. Please call the front desk at (408) 846-0300.

For emergencies, continue to use 9-1-1.  For non-emergencies, please call (408) 846-0350.

For those required to complete regular court ordered offender registration, the Gilroy Police Department will limit registration hours to Wednesdays, from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

The Gilroy Police Department is monitoring the situation closely while working in partnership with our local, state, and federal partners to ensure the safety of our community and our employees. Public safety is our number one priority. We want to thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we all do our part to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
