Governor Murphy's Executive Order addressing COVID-19

As you are no doubt aware, Governor Murphy has issued an Executive Order in response to the COVID-19 Pandemic.  Below is a summary of the important terms that affect the residents of the Borough of Hawthorne. A copy of the full Executive Order is attached

            1. The Governor has urged all residents not engaged in essential business to be at home between the hours of 8:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m.  This is not a curfew but the Borough of Hawthorne joins with the Governor in asking all residents to adhere to this restriction.

            2. All gatherings, public or private, must be limited to groups of 50 or less people.  Where there are gatherings of any sort, safe practices such as social distancing should take place.

            3. All schools, from pre-schools through colleges, public and private, are closed until further notice. Home education will be provided by the schools and children receiving free or reduced cost meal plans will continue to have their needs met.

            4. Effective 8:00 p.m. on March 16th, all casinos, racetracks, and entertainment centers, such as movie theaters, performance arts centers and concert venues will be closed.

            5. All non-essential retail, recreational and entertainment business must close daily between the hours of 8:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m.  During regular hours between 5:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. these businesses are limited to maximum occupancy of 50 persons at any given time.

            6. Essential businesses such as supermarkets and food stores, pharmacies, medical supply stores, and gas stations, are not limited in their hours of operation.

            7. All restaurants and bars must close at 8:00 p.m on March 16th.  Eat-in service is then prohibited until further order.  This applies to food and beverages.  Restaurants may be open during their normal business hours starting on March 17th for take-out and delivery service only.

The Borough of Hawthorne fully supports the efforts on the Federal and State level to contain the spread of this virus.  The citizens of Hawthorne have always been at their best when they have been asked to come together in a time of need.  I expect our great community to do what it has always done and show all those around us what makes us special.  So please consider your fellow residents, those most vulnerable and the good of the Borough and join me in rising to meet the challenge that has been placed before us.
