IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT IN REGARDS TO COVID-19 WITHIN THE BOROUGH OF GARWOOD.

Earlier today the Westfield Regional Board of Health notified Garwood that a 62 year old resident has tested presumptive positive for the Corona Novel Virus COVID-19. The individual's symptoms are not severe enough for hospitalization and is home under isolation. Through the course of the day health care officials have been working with members of the Board of health to identify and notify people that have been in close contact with this individual. It is important to remember that there are everyday preventative actions you can take to help limit the spread of respiratory viruses, including COVID-19 and flu:
1) Practice good hygiene:
Wash hands often with soap and water or alcohol-based (60% or more) hand sanitizer. Avoid touching your face with hands unless thoroughly cleaned. Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects often.
2) Practice Social Distancing:
Avoid close contact (Keep a distance of 6 feet) with people who appear to have a respiratory infection. Avoid physical contact and crowds.
 
 
 
 

Instructions:

Symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, cough, and shortness of breath. Those symptoms may appear within 2 to 14 days of exposure and can range from mild to severe. if you are having symptoms, here are some critically important steps you can take to reduce your chances of spreading the virus:
1) Call your doctor first:
2) Stay home except to get medical care. Self transport if and when possible to avoid further spreading the virus to public safety professionals.
3) Separate yourself from other people. Limit contact and stay in a separate room whenever possible.

Finally it is critical to know where you can obtain the most accurate information from credible sources. The New Jersey Department of Health has a 24-hour hotline at 1-800-222-1222, where trained healthcare professionals are standing by to answer questions about COVID-19. The CDC and WHO are also excellent sources for the latest information.
