Letter to Our Community

Letter to our Community

As we face the challenge of responding to the coronavirus (COVID-19), we want to remind the community that the safety, health, and well-being of our citizens, employees and first responders remains our highest priority. This enduring value will continue to guide us as we make decisions about the safest service delivery to our community.

To best continue serving our community and to keep everyone informed, we are in the process of updating several procedures based on guidelines set forth by the Centers of Disease Control and Public Health Madison and Dane County. Effective immediately, we are incorporating the following changes until further notice:

• All Police Department Tours have been cancelled
• All Police Department ride-alongs have been cancelled
• Public Fingerprinting service has been cancelled
• Sun Prairie Municipal Court has closed all court dates until May 6, 2020 (individuals with upcoming court dates will be notified by mail).

For your convenience, the following services are provided online:

• Public records requests are available on our website at the following address:https://sunprairiewi.justfoia.com/publicportal/home/track
• Citation payment options are available on our website at the following address: https://paydirect.link2gov.com/sunprairiepolice/ItemSelection/SelectItems

If you require police services or would like to report suspicious activity, please call us at (608) 837-7336. Officers are being encouraged to take lower priority police reports by telephone instead of making personal contact with citizens. For community members that come to our lobby to report an incident, officers may speak to you from within the secured area of the police department.

Responding to COVID-19 requires all of us working together. This is a rapidly changing and evolving situation. Follow Public Health Madison & Dane County on Facebook and Twitter to see the latest local updates. You can also find the most up-to-date information on the CDC's coronavirus webpage. If you are concerned about your risk of getting COVID-19 please contact the Public Health Madison & Dane County at 608-266-1865.

I want to thank all of our staff and community members for working together to face this quickly evolving situation. We will keep you updated on any other service changes at the police department.

Mike Steffes
