Significant Property Crime Case Solved - Suspect a Santa Clara Resident

While conducting investigations into numerous auto burglaries that have occurred in the City of Santa Clara over the past several months, Santa Clara Police Department's (SCPD) Detectives identified suspect Kari Rios, a resident of Santa Clara. A Records check revealed Rios was on Santa Clara County Probation for Identity Theft.

On February 26, 2020, SCPD Detectives conducted a probation search at Rios’ residence. During the search, Detectives located approximately 100 pieces of mail, credit cards, California Driver Licenses and other forms of identification belonging to over 40 potential victims. Through investigation, Detectives learned many of the victims were also Santa Clara residents.

The affected victims have been contacted and their property has been returned accordingly. Through these contacts, Detectives learned many of the individuals had been victimized as a result of a theft from their vehicle. Others had mail stolen from their mailboxes. Numerous victims had their credit cards used at various locations and had fraudulent accounts set up.
