March 13, 2020 Montgomery Township Statement on COVID-19 and Municipal Services
Dear Members of the Montgomery Township Community,
As we face the significant public health challenges caused by the COVID-19 virus, our priorities are to protect the health of the public, our employees, and provide services in the most responsible manner possible. We have taken a number of steps to ensure everyone’s safety and the continuity of services provided by your municipal administration. For example, we will be implementing social distancing measures. We hope the FAQs below will answer some of your questions and allay concerns:
1.) Will municipal offices be open for business?
Beginning Monday, March 16th until Tuesday, March 31st, anyone wishing to conduct business in person with any municipal department must set up an appointment and receive confirmation in advance by emailing or calling (908) 359-8211. Some municipal employees will be working remotely. Questions and comments should be sent by email or made by phone. Any payments may be made on-line or put in the drop-box in front of the municipal building. Recreation program registrations may be mailed or left in a drop box in the vestibule at the Otto Kaufman Center. We will provide an update by Monday, March 30th about future building access.
2.) What about municipal meetings?
Township municipal meetings are cancelled from Monday, March 16th until Tuesday, March 31st with the following exceptions: Township Committee, Planning Board, Zoning Board and Board of Health. All of these meetings will be available for viewing online at https://twp.montgomery.nj.us/elected-officials/meeting-videos/ Members of the public can submit comments or questions via our website’s Contact page ( https://twp.montgomery.nj.us/contact-us/). If this is a Public Comment for a board, in the Subject Line include name of board and ‘Public Comment’.
3.) How can I get more information?
We urge all residents at this time to stay in communication with us by signing up for Montgomery Township E-bulletins and Nixle from our website homepage at www.montgomery.nj.us.
If you have general COVID-19 questions:
Montgomery Health Department has a dedicated site for COVID-19 related information at: https://health.montgomery.nj.us/covid19/. Call the Montgomery Township Health Department at 908-359-8211. Residents may call 908-231-7111 for a daily automated reading of the coronavirus (COVID-19) status in Somerset County.

4.) What advice do you have to help residents stay healthy?
a. “Social distancing” actions are strongly urged by Health Officer Stephanie Carey. While such actions will not eliminate this virus, they can help slow down its spread. Slowing COVID-19 spread in our community will help our health care system better assist those who become ill during this time.
b. Please be patient during this time and avoid social gatherings and close person-to-person contact where exposure is possible. The Governor has prohibited large public gatherings of over 250 persons.
c. Practice good hygiene, including frequent hand washing, cover coughs and sneezes with your elbows or tissues, maintain a distance of 6 ft. and do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth.
d. Pick up the phone and talk to neighbors, family and friends, who may be feeling distressed, especially seniors. We are in this together, even if not so much in person!
e. Stay home if you are sick until you are well. “Well” means no fever (must be fever-free for 24 hours without medication) and no cough. If you are feeling ill, call your doctor’s office.
More information will be made available to the Montgomery public as further evaluation of the situation occurs. Please check emails and the Township website for updates.
We will get through this together!
