The Somerset County Health Dept. and Somerset County Office of Emergency Management briefed our Police Committee on the latest steps to prepare for and respond to COVID-19, (Coronavirus). As of last evening, there were no confirmed cases in Somerset County. Anyone sick with respiratory symptoms should call his or her doctor first, before visiting the doctor’s office or emergency room, for medical direction.

The County Health Department is assisting with testing and tracking individuals who had possible contact with COVID-19. The state is providing testing only for symptomatic patients who are known to have had contact with a confirmed case and require hospitalization.

The Somerset County Health Dept. and The Far Hills Department of Emergency Management will monitor all schools and area organizations and keep residents apprised.

All residents should continue to use common sense measures:

• Stay home when you are sick

• Avoid close contact with those who are sick

• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands

• Cover your coughs or sneezes with a tissue or into your sleeve

• Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds

• If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based sanitizer

• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.

Communication is key! Any information that you have regarding COVID-19, report it immediately to our Police Department.
