Hit-and-Run Crash Injures Woman

Las Cruces police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the driver responsible for a hit-and-run crash that injured a 37-year-old woman Saturday afternoon.

The crash occurred shortly before 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, at the intersection of Lohman Avenue and Walton Boulevard.

Traffic investigators learned a woman driving a scooter was traveling north on Walton, crossing Lohman Avenue, when her vehicle was struck by a small sedan. Witnesses described the hit-and-run vehicle as a gold or brown sedan, possibly a 1990’s or 2000’s model Honda.

Witnesses told police the hit-and-run vehicle was traveling south on Walton and turning left, or east, onto Lohman when it struck the scooter. The driver of the vehicle briefly stopped near the McDonald’s restaurant but then fled the area and was last seen heading south on I-25.

The 37-year-old driver of the scooter was wearing a helmet and was tended to at the scene by several passers-by before emergency crews arrived. She was subsequently transported to MountainView Regional Medical Center. Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The hit-and-run vehicle was said to have black or gray bumpers and may have front-end damage to driver’s-side fender, hood or bumper.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the hit-and-run vehicle, or its driver, is asked to call Las Cruces police at (575) 526-0795.
