The Maui Police Department arrested Autumn Stone, 38 years old, Santa Rosa, for Child abduction.
At 9:00 am (Hawaii Standard Time), a public transit driver recognized Stone and Barros, as they boarded the bus from local alerts and called the local authorities.
The Sonoma County Violent Crimes Unit investigated the case. The detectives had been working on this case non-stop for the past two-days conducting interviews and following up on leads.
On Wednesday, March 4, detectives developed information that Stone had purchased two-airline tickets to Maui. Stone and Barros boarded a plane at Oakland airport, which departed at 6:55 am and arrived in Maui at 10:18 am. Based on the information, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Stone.
After confirming the flight information, detectives contacted the Maui Police Department and worked closely with their agency. Information about the child abduction was broadcasted over the news and social media outlets, which aided in finding Stone and Barros.
On February 20, an Emergency Custody Order was granted by a Judge, prohibiting Stone from any contact with Barros and granting his father full custodial custody.
Barros is in the custody of Child Welfare Services. Barros is safe and was not harmed.
Stone was booked into the Maui Community Corrections Center for child abduction. She is being held on a non-citable warrant. Stone will later be extradited to Sonoma County.
