Sheriff's Air Rescue 6 hoists a stranded driver from the Cactus Flats area of Big Bear
DATE/TIME: Monday, March 2, 2020 / 2:59 pm
INCIDENT: Hoist Rescue
LOCATION: Cactus Flats area of Big Bear
VICTIM: Thomas Liesemeyer, 30 years old, resident of Big Bear
SUMMARY:
On March 2, 2020, Liesemeyer and some friends went off-roading in the Cactus Flats area. When their vehicle became disabled in the snow, Liesemeyer attempted to hike for help but due to the terrain and snow, he was unable to continue. Liesemeyer was able to obtain cellular service and called 9-1-1 for assistance.
Sheriff's 40King4 responded to the area and located Liesemeyer lying in the snow at the 6,500' level. The crew made several attempts to conduct a technical landing and resuce him, however the terrain and large trees prevented them from completing the rescue. They then requested the assistance of Sheriff's Air Rescue 6 for a hoist rescue.
Sheriff's Air Rescue 6 responded to the area and while hovering over Liesemeyer they lowered a medic approximately 95' to him. The medic placed Liesemeyer into a rescue harness and he was hoisted back up to Air Rescue 6, followed by the medic.
The crew transported Lieseneyer to Big Bear Airport, where he was transferred to the care of San Bernardino County Fire Ambulance 281 for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
