Getting To Know IMPD - In Honor of Black History Month
Dominique Clark has been an officer with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department for the past three years. Clark is currently a North District late shift Field Training Officer (FTO). Clark is a native of Cleveland, Ohio and brings a wealth of compassion to law enforcement. Clark stated being a black female allows her to bridge the gap in the community she serves. She has seen on numerous occasions where people were more likely to speak with her because she looked like them. She believes that porch conversations break down barriers. Being a training officer, she stresses the importance of communication. “Just because someone isn’t like or looks like you, it doesn’t mean you can’t relate with them. Relating starts with conversation” said Clark.
Clark teaches conflict resolution through community policing. Clark enjoys her current role because she loves to talk to people. Prior to joining the police department Clark has held several jobs in the medical and service industry and attributes her ability to communicate and relate to her upbringing and background experience. She enjoys the job because she loves people, likes being a person not complaining about the police but rather attempting to make change from within. Her approach allows her to help others see the other side of the coin. IMPD is proud to have officers like Dominique Clark protecting our streets.
