Duarte Crime Blotter for the Week of February 9-15, 2020

The following is a synopsis of crimes reported for the week of February 9 through February 15, 2020:        
 
February 9, 2020

  • No significant activity.  
 
February 10, 2020
  • Attempt Grand Theft Auto:
Sometime between 4:00 pm on February 8th and 2:00 pm on the 10th, unknown persons attempted to steal a 1978 Dodge Ram Van from the rear parking lot of the “Church of Christ” located at 1330 Highland Avenue. The vehicle sustained damage to the ignition mechanism and steering column and the interior of the vehicle appeared to have been ransacked.    
     
February 11, 2020
  • Assault with a Deadly Weapon:
An assault occurred on February 7 in the 1900 block of Huntington Drive. The victim stated he was walking on the sidewalk when a male on a bicycle rode up from behind him and told him to get out of the way. An argument ensued and the suspect pulled out a knife. When the victim stated he was calling 911, the suspect fled on his bike. When the victim was asked why he waited four days to report the assault, he stated he was too busy with work and only reported it after talking to his lawyer.   
 
  • Petty Theft:
A petty theft was reported at Walmart located at 1600 Mountain Avenue.  Sometime between 6:30 pm and 8:00 pm while the victim was shopping, unknown persons stole his locked mountain bike which was locked up by the front entrance of the store.       
      
February 12, 2020
  • Petty Theft:
Two petty thefts were reported at Planet Fitness located at 1193 Huntington Drive.  Between 5:00 pm and 7:15 pm, unknown persons stole a wallet from one unlocked locker and a backpack from another. A credit card from the stolen wallet was used shortly after at the Rite-Aid in Duarte. Over $500 in merchandise was charged with the stolen credit card.   
 
February 13, 2020
  • Petty Theft:
A petty theft was reported in the 1000 block of Las Lomas Road. At approximately 4:00 pm, the victim had just finished working on his vehicle and took it for a test drive, leaving his $50 ratchet set on the curb line. When he returned five minutes later, the ratchet set was gone.       
    
February 14, 2020
  • Grand Theft:
A grand theft was reported at the Rite-Aid located at 1335 Huntington Drive. In December, management noticed some inconsistencies in medication products. After conducting an internal investigation, management concluded an employee had stolen over $5,000 worth of medication and contacted the Sheriff’s department. The investigation is ongoing
