Deputies from the Specialized Enforcement Division arrest Gerson Sagastume for Murder

VICTIMS: Pedro Espinoza, 59 years old, resident of Adelanto – deceased
Rosa Mendoza, 59 years old, resident of Adelanto - deceased
Name withheld, 33 years old, resident of Adelanto - hospitalized
SUSPECT: Gerson Sagastume, 27 years old, resident of Adelanto
SUMMARY:
On Sunday, February 23, 2020, at 8:28 a.m. deputies responded to a shooting at a home on Chamberlaine Way in Adelanto. Deputies and medical aid arrived and found three people, two men, and one woman, suffering from gunshot wounds. The female, Rosa Mendoza, was pronounced deceased at the scene, and the two other victims were transported to local hospitals. Pedro Espinoza was pronounced deceased upon arrival at the hospital. The other victim received non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to survive. There were other people in the home at the time of the shooting that were not injured.
Sheriff’s Homicide Detectives responded to conduct the investigation. Through the investigation, Gerson Sagastume was identified as the suspect and a warrant was authored for his arrest. Deputies from the Specialized Enforcement Division (SED) responded to assist. Sagastume was eventually located hiding in an abandoned residence in Adelanto.
Sagastume was transported to the Victor Valley Sheriff’s Station and interviewed by Homicide Investigators. At the conclusion of the interview, Sagastume was booked at the High Desert Detention Center for PC 187; Murder. The motive remains under investigation. No additional information is available for release at this time.
