Statement from Mayor Bhalla, Council President Giattino on approval of Hoboken Yard Redevelopment Plan amendment

The Hoboken City Council approved an amendment to the Hoboken Yard Redevelopment Plan last night by a 9-0 vote. The amendment was necessitated by the Rebuild by Design flood protection measure in southern Hoboken, and reduces the overall development by approximately 1 million square feet, as compared to the original plan adopted by the Council in 2014. The amended plan also provides for less residential density than the 2014 plan.

“I’m pleased that the most updated version of the Hoboken Yard Redevelopment Plan incorporates the extensive community feedback we’ve received over the past several months,” said Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla. “This plan is a win for Hoboken as it provides the framework to both revitalize our downtown region with an emphasis on commercial development, while substantially reducing the size of the overall project and residential density. I thank Council President Jen Giattino, the City Council, and the resident task force for their collaborative approach in developing the best possible plan for our City.”

“I am so proud of tonight’s unanimous vote in support of what will be a transforming plan for Hoboken and NJ Transit,” said Council President Jen Giattino. “The combined efforts of our Council subcommittee and the years of input from the Hoboken Task Force helped shape this into the commercially anchored plan that best meets the long term goals for both Hoboken and NJ Transit. I’m very much looking forward to continuing our partnership with LCOR and NJ Transit and all other stakeholders to make this plan a reality.”
