Getting To Know IMPD - In Honor of Black History Month

Officer Jerome Barker has been an officer with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department for the past 12 years.  Barker is a native of Indianapolis and has lived here his entire life. Currently he serves as a member of Quick Response Force (QRF). QRF officers are assigned to full-time Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT). These officers are responsible for assisting patrol officers with barricaded suspects, K9 tracks involving armed suspects, and tracking down many of the city’s most violent criminals. These officers are also tasks with training recruit officers on a host of training scenarios.

Prior to his role with QRF, Barker has worked as a Street Crimes Detective, East District Patrol, and as a Field Training Officer.  He is an active academy instructor and teaches recruits survival tactics.
Barker is confident that the work the QRF team does ensures the safety of the citizens of Indianapolis.  “Being able to respond quickly can not only save lives but it can also prevent further crimes from occurring,” said Barker.
