Crime Alert Bulletin

When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.

Notable Cases

On Monday, 01-27-20 at 4:40 p.m., an 18-year old Westmoor High School student was cited for possession of marijuana on school grounds during school hours and for possession of multiple vape pens and nicotine.

On Tuesday, 01-28-20 at 5:00 p.m., Officer Reininger was dispatched to the Macy’s store on a report of a robbery with a knife. The loss prevention officer said he confronted a subject in a fitting room for shoplifting, and the suspect pulled a knife on him and threatened him. The loss prevention officer attempted to move away, and the male subject instructed others to keep their distance. The subject fled on Southgate Avenue. Officer Hightower stopped a Sam Trans bus, and the subject was on the bus. The subject, a 39-year old San Francisco resident, was placed under arrest for robbery, possession of two baggies of methamphetamine and Fentanyl, possession of narcotics paraphernalia, and for two outstanding warrants.

On Thursday, 01-30-20 at 12:46 p.m., Officer Williams was dispatched to the parking lot area of Westmoor High School on a report of an unresponsive subject with a bottle of alcohol who was asleep in a vehicle parked on the grass. Officer Williams arrived to see a subject asleep with a sweatshirt pulled over his eyes. Officer Williams turned off the radio and placed the vehicle in park. Sgt. Hussain arrived to assist and woke up the subject. The Campus Supervisor advised the officers that he saw the vehicle driving fast in the lot prior to the vehicle going on to the lawn. Officer Williams subsequently arrested the subject, a 23-year old San Francisco resident, for driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a suspended driver's license.

On Friday, 01-31-20 at 11:14 p.m., Officer Chow and Officer Covarrubias were dispatched to the Hampton Inn on a report of a woman (not a guest) who was in the lobby stating she needed the police. The dispatcher advised the woman sounded intoxicated and only wanted a ride home. The officers arrived to find the female arguing with hotel staff. They observed the subject to be intoxicated and stated she needed a ride. Officer Chow tried speaking to the subject, but she ignored her and began to get loud and belligerent. Officer Covarrubias also tried to speak to the subject, and he received the same belligerent treatment from her. When Officer Chow attempted to place the female under arrest for public intoxication, she said the subject slapped the right side of her face, causing the nose piece of her eyeglasses to poke the officer in the eye. As Officer Chow placed the subject in the patrol car, she said the subject kicked her in the leg. The subject, a 24-year old San Francisco resident, was arrested for assault/battery of a peace officer in addition to public intoxication.

On Wednesday, 01-19-20 at 1:15 a.m., a reporting party called saying he was returning home on the 100 block of Los Olivos Avenue when he saw a male on the street flagging him to stop. The reporting party said the male asked him for a ride. The reporting party told the subject “no”, and he said the male then began to pull on vehicle doors to get inside a vehicle. The reporting party said he continued to watch the subject who then opened a garage and went inside the house. Officer Lajoie was dispatched to the call, and when he was speaking with the reporting party, the officer saw a subject leave the residence in question. The reporting party wanted to press charges, and after Officer Lajoie conducted a brief investigation, he arrested the 21-year old transient subject for residential burglary, tampering with a vehicle, and for providing false information to a police officer.

Scams/Other

FBI Scam

This is very similar to the “Social Security” scam. A 49-year old Daly City reported this past week that someone called her from the “FBI” and said someone was using her social security number to commit illegal crimes and purchase cocaine. The caller told the victim in order to resolve the matter, the suspect advised her to go to Safeway and purchase three Target gift cards. Once purchased, the caller asked for the security code numbers on the back of the cards. The victim lost $1,500.00.

Please share this story with your friends, neighbors and co-workers about the new twist in the same scam.

Nextdoor.com

Nextdoor.com is a free private social networking website for your neighborhood. This private network ensures that only those who live in your neighborhood can join; users must go through a verification process. Neighbors ask each other for business recommendations; help in locating missing pets; discuss relevant local government issues; or connect for other reasons. It is very easy to sign up. I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access to a neighborhood if they don’t live there. Please note: The City of Daly City and/or the Police Department cannot see what residents post—we are only allowed to post information. There is also a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your e-mail. Give it a try! www.nextdoor.com
