*2nd UPDATE* #LASD Homicide Continuing to Assist El Monte PD, Death Investigation, Maxson Rd, El Monte

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau detectives continue to assist El Monte Police Department (EMPD) personnel investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of 64 year-old Florinda Velasquez-Hernandez that occurred on Tuesday, February 4, 2020, in the 3300 block of Maxson Road in El Monte at 10:25 A.M.
 
Suspect David Lemus-Orellana, male Hispanic 22 years-old, has been arrested for the murder of Victim Velasquez-Hernandez. Bail has been set at $1,000,000.  
 
The suspect and victim were roommates. The motive for this incident is unknown at this time. 
 
The investigation is ongoing and there is no additional information available at this time.

FIRST UPDATE IS AS FOLLOWS:

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau detectives continue to assist El Monte Police Department (EMPD) personnel investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of a female, Hispanic adult that occurred on Tuesday, February 4, 2020 in the 3300 block of Maxson Road in El Monte at 10:25 A.M.

Detectives have learned that officers assigned to EMPD responded to the location regarding a “suspicious circumstances” call.  The call indicated there was a male dragging a female body towards the dumpsters. EMPD officers arrived on scene and located the victim inside a trash dumpster.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of death is unknown at this time.

Several witnesses are being questioned and one possible suspect is being detained for questioning.

The investigation is ongoing and there is no additional information available at this time.
