Sheriff Richard J. Behnke, reports that on 02/03/2020 at approximately 1800 hours his office was called to investigate a personal injury crash that occurred on Redfield St. and Fir Rd., Milton Township, Cass County Michigan. Shannon Ruth Schalk, 25 y/o resident of Niles, MI was heading West on Redfield St., the driver stopped at the Redfield St and Fir Rd. intersection and proceeded to turn South on Fir Rd. As the driver was turning, 16 y/o resident of Niles, MI was heading East on Redfield St., the 16 y/o driver did not stop at the stop sign and crashed into the South turning vehicle. This caused Ms. Schalk’s vehicle to spin and hit another vehicle heading West on Redfield St. The driver of that vehicle, Kimberly Joy Evans, 60 y/o resident of Granger, IN, was stopped when her vehicle was struck. Ms. Schalk suffered minor injuries and was transported to St. Joe Regional Medical Center. The 16 y/o driver and his passenger were checked out and cleared on scene by SMCAS Ambulance. Ms. Evans did not sustain any injuries. All occupants were wearing seatbelts and airbags for two vehicles were deployed.
