Getting To Know Your Officers - In Honor of Black History Month
Officer Anthony Patterson has been an officer with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department for the past 14 years. Patterson is currently assigned to the Training Academy where he is a Training Instructor. This role is tasked with providing a solid foundation and understanding of law enforcement to the recruits. The Academy is a critical place for recruits to learn and develop as officers. Patterson is also responsible for ensuring that veteran officers maintain state-mandated training, and assist with Citizen Academy’s where community members learn about local law enforcement and crime prevention.
Training Instructors play an invaluable role within the police department, helping to shape recruits to training veteran officers. Patterson stated, “It is important that recruits learn solid communication techniques because effective communication strengthens police/community partnerships.”
Before his role at the Training Academy Patterson worked in patrol on East District. He enjoys working with the recruits because it allows him to leave a legacy.
